Overview

Traditional Chinese are used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore and some other Southeast Asian countries.

Here, basic translation rules for Traditional Chinese (also called as "TC" or "CHT") are introduced. Because some basic translation requirement are introduced in the SC Translation Rules, here will focus on the TC differences.

Have you got some experience about this language now? If yes, pls try to answer the following questions:

- Is TC hard to understand? Why?

- What's the difference between SC and TC?

 

Difference is obvious between SC and TC characters.

- Usually, TC characters have much more strokes than SC ones. Luckily, we don't need to write TC characters with pens :-)

- TC characters (about 3,700) are more than SC (2,235). Yes, it's hard to learn all the TC characters, but only about 450 characters appear frequently in technical docs.

Comparison between these frequently used characters in SC and TC are shown in attached file:

Due to the complex handwriting of TC characters, it's quite possible to misuse them for those who are new to this language. Here are some instructions to avoid typical typos ->
